The Western Freedom team was excited to participate in the?Western Interstate Energy Board's Spring 2024 CREPC-WIRAB meeting in Denver last week! Congratulations to the entire WIEB team for hosting a record number of attendees for informative and exciting conversations on western energy developments. Some of our favorite discussions included: ?? A presentation about the Pathways Initiative -?Pamela Sporborg?and?Evelyn Kahl?gave a clear and thorough overview of the April 10 Straw Proposal and saw great engagement from state participants. ?? Understanding Seams - With the potential for two day-ahead markets in the West,?Kelsey Martinez with Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM),?Rachel Dibble?with Bonneville Power Administration, ?Scott Miller with WESTERN POWER TRADING FORUM and?Johannes Pfeifenberger with The Brattle Group?had an interesting discussion on the implications of?#seams?and how system operators will (or will not) be equipped to manage them between the two markets. Want to reduce those challenges? Create one large market footprint! ?? Resource Adequacy -?#Reliability?and?#ResourceAdequacy?were a major theme at the meeting, especially considering the recent announcement by WRAP participants to delay the launch of binding operations?to mid-2027. Despite the delay, we heard a resounding desire by participants and the?Western Power Pool?to work together and assess potential changes to the program to allow for robust participation. With another successful meeting under our belt, we are looking forward to seeing continued market progress when CREPC meets again this fall. ? #CREPC?#EnergyMarkets?#PathwaysInitiative?#WesternMarketDevelopment?#Progress?#CustomerBenefits?#RegionalCollaboration
