We wanted to take this opportunity to highlight the WNC Colorectal Screening Initiative (WNC CRCSI), a program that provides vital colorectal cancer screening to average risk, uninsured, low-income patients between the ages of 45 and 75 in Buncombe, Henderson, Madison, Mitchell, Yancey, Transylvania, Rutherford, Macon, Jackson, Swain, Haywood, McDowell, and Polk Counties. Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in North Carolina but is highly treatable when detected early. Our dedicated network of healthcare providers, pharmacies, WCMS Interpreter Network Interpreters, health navigators, and volunteers – supported by donations from foundations, businesses, and individuals – provide free specialty care through Project Access to individuals in Buncombe and Madison counties without reimbursement or cost to the patients.
