? Exciting (Additional) Job Announcement! ? I’m thrilled to share that, alongside my ongoing work as a Campus Community Safety Coordinator, I’ve taken on an interim role as Co-Residence Hall Director at Western! ?? With the recent transition of Western’s Hall Director, my colleague in Campus Community Safety, Maya Baldewicz, and I stepped up to embrace this incredible opportunity. Together, we’ll work closely with (and for) Western’s amazing Community Assistants, Desk Assistants, and the hundreds of residents who call the hall home. At Western—and within Campus Community Safety—we live by the concept of serving every student, every day, no matter the time of day. This new role allows us to further that mission by fostering a safe, engaged, and thriving living-learning environment. I’m deeply grateful for the support of Western’s leadership, all of my talented colleagues, and my professional network, all of whom have made this opportunity possible. It’s an honor to grow in my career while making a meaningful impact on our fantastic campus community. Here’s to growth, new challenges, and serving students in new ways! ?? #residencelife #campussafety #newrole #everystudenteveryday

?? Exciting Opportunities for Growth at Western! ?? Recently, the leadership team at Western Campus Community Safety had valuable opportunities to learn from others in higher education and explore fresh ideas to enhance the services we provide to students. Coordinator Mathu had the pleasure of attending the UMR-ACUHO Conference in Missouri, where he gained new insights and strategies for our work in housing and residence life. Engaging with regional leaders from across the Midwest was inspiring, and participating in a case study presentation alongside a peer in his master’s cohort who works at UW-Eau Claire was a highlight! Meanwhile, Director Schuster and Coordinator Baldewicz traveled to Florida for the annual NABITA Conference to deepen their understanding of behavioral intervention and learn about industry best practices. Their insights will be useful in continuing Western’s strong, collaborative approach to supporting students through challenges they may face. A huge thank you to our partners at Western—especially the CARE Team and Student Life—for making these professional development experiences possible. We’re committed to applying what we’ve learned to support every student, every day. #everystudenteveryday #learning #residencelife #behavioralhealth

We’d like to extend a huge congratulations to Orion Roen, former Western Campus Community Safety Officer and outgoing Residence Hall Director, as he embarks on a new role with the City of La Crosse’s MTU. ?? We’re hopeful he’ll bring his skills and passion to our community as a safe, effective, and positive bus driver. This is also a fantastic reminder for current Western students! ?? With your valid Western student ID card, you can ride both the MTU and SMRT bus free of charge. So, even though Orion is moving on, you might just be able to spot a familiar face behind the wheel of a bus around town! ?? Best of luck, Orion! #safety #goodluckorion #transportation #communityengagement

From the Campus Community Safety team, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all who have served in the Armed Forces. Your dedication and sacrifice mean so much to us. We also want to highlight the Wisconsin Veterans Museum Traveling Exhibit that was on Western’s campus last week in the Kumm Center. As you can see from the picture, the exhibit "WWI Beyond the Trenches: Stories from the Front," commemorates stories of the over 122,000 Wisconsin men and women who served during the First World War. Additionally, we want to extend a special thanks to our Campus Community Safety team members, past and present, who have served in the U.S. Armed Services—your commitment to safety and service inspires us. Take a moment today to thank a veteran. Happy Veterans Day! #thankyouveterans #western #campuscommunitysafety

Safety First: Preparing for Winter Weather on Campus! Not always the most thrilling topic, but a super important one for everyone in our campus community: wearing the right footwear and dressing for Wisconsin’s winter weather. Slips, trips, and falls aren’t just inconvenient—they’re a serious safety risk that can affect anyone. Our Campus Community Safety Office recently shared this reminder on our Western Engage profile, where all students can view it directly and engage with the post. But it’s a message that applies to all of us: students, faculty, staff, and community members alike. Here’s how we can all stay prepared: ?? Choose Weather-Ready Footwear: Footwear with strong treads is key for navigating snow and ice. A quick change from smooth-soled shoes to those with better traction can make a big difference. ? Stay Cautious in Transition Seasons: The start of fall may be warm, but weather can shift quickly (last year we saw snow by late October!). Be mindful when moving through campus, especially in unfamiliar areas. ?? Dress for the Weather: It may seem early, but layering up now will help you stay comfortable and protected as temperatures drop. These simple but critical reminders are here to help us all get through fall and winter safely. As always, if you have questions, reach out to our Campus Community Safety leadership, and let’s look out for each other as we step into the colder months ahead!

?? It’s Half-Time! ?? As we reached the halfway point in the 2024 fall term, Campus Community Safety was excited to offer students some awesome wellness giveaway items! Coordinator Baldewicz created wellness kits to give away to students to help keep them feeling their best. Because, while "half-time" can be a fun breather, it’s also the time when colds and other bugs start making their rounds. Take care of yourself and stay healthy as we gear up to finish fall strong! ?? And–for our other upcoming events–we’re excited to have these new Campus Community Safety thermal mugs and blender bottles as giveaway prizes! We’ll post to our LinkedIn and Engage page with more information soon! #wellnesswins #safety #halftime #campuscommunitysafety

?? Community is in our name—and engaging with folks in the community is one of the best parts of the work we do! ?? Last week, the Campus Community Safety Office had the pleasure of participating in the annual "Hall-O-Treats" event at the Residence Hall. It was such a great opportunity to connect with families and spread some festive fun! ?? We're also excited to announce that we provided the most donations for the Candy Drive Competition this year, which helped supply the candy for the event! ?? Next year, we’ll be ready to defend our title, but most importantly, we’re thrilled to have been part of such a special campus tradition that brings people together. A massive shoutout to all those who made this event a success! ???? #communityengagement #campussafety #western
