  • It's only natural to 'baby-proof' a house for a toddler. The same is true for adults, especially those with compromised mobility. This is the perfect time to ensure your home and surroundings are safe. Take this week to survey your, or your loved one's, home. Is lighting sufficient to see where they are going, especially near stairs? Are there any throw rugs and cords that could be tripping hazards? Do they need grab bars in the bathroom?

  • A noticeable decline in physical health or mental sharpness is a sign that hospice is needed. Hospice isn’t about giving up. Changing the treatment plan from curative to comfort care means that our team can focus on improving the quality of life for the patient. That means a family can focus on making each day count. At WV Caring, we focus on improving quality of life, managing symptoms, and supporting families through this journey. If you’re wondering if it’s time for hospice, we’re here to help. ?? • Dr. Daniel Hale Williams, a trailblazer in both medicine and history, made groundbreaking strides as one of the first surgeons to successfully perform open-heart surgery in 1893. Not only was he a surgical pioneer, but he also founded Provident Hospital in Chicago—the first hospital in the U.S. to employ an integrated staff and provide care for patients of all races. Dr. Williams' commitment to excellence, inclusion, and compassion resonates with the work we do at WV Caring. His legacy reminds us that care, innovation, and equality are at the heart of transformative change. This Black History Month, we honor the incredible contributions of Dr. Williams and countless others who have paved the way for better healthcare for all.
