The 2024 Golden Shovel Competition was a tremendous success for both students and the industry! The day began with a job prep phase where students, alongside industry coaches, showcased their skills in surveying, staking, and planning.? ? By afternoon, they were operating skid steers, building dirt pads for judging. Attendees enjoyed the action from the bleachers and explored the IUOE 103 facilities. ? Yesterday, civil construction pros teamed up with the next generation at the Golden Shovel Competition hosted by Work IN Roads. This event celebrates mentorship, skill-sharing, and a bright future for our industry in the state of Indiana! ???? With nine high school teams (a big leap from last year’s 2!) and industry pros guiding them, students tackled real-world construction challenges: surveying, equipment checks, precise grading, safety and more. And it wasn’t just a competition—mentors from some of Indiana's leading construction businesses turned the day into an unforgettable, hands-on experience.
