I was incredibly honored at the txEDCON 2024 to stand on the stage and represent my 100+ districts of East Texas as your Superintendent of the Year! Always remembering that it’s about kids, I could only think about the innovative and strategic actions that take place in our Texas schools every day to serve our 5.5 million public school students. We are thrilled to share that new AmeriCorps grants will assist our service areas of Diboll and West Sabine, Texas, and Mexico, Missouri! Over the next three years, this funding will allow tutoring and mentorship opportunities in the local school districts through AmeriCorps. Thank you to AmeriCorps CEO Michael Smith and AmeriCorps State and National Director Sonali Nijhawan for joining us for the reception on Tuesday, and thank you to representatives from the TLL Temple Foundation, West Sabine ISD, Diboll ISD, East Texas Boys and Girls Club, Angelina College, and Stephen F. Austin State University. We can't wait to see what opportunities will arise for students and families in East Texas and Missouri. #RuralImpact
