Students from WDMCS, Ames, Ankeny, Des Moines, Johnston, and Southeast Polk were empowered and equipped to use their voices as leaders in their communities at the first annual Student Voice Symposium on March 23 at Stilwell Junior High. The high school and junior high students spent the day connecting with each other and community leaders, as well as learning about leadership and equity topics. We want to thank the many school leaders who ensured students could attend, as well as our talented panelists, presenters, and volunteers. Special thanks go out to our closing ceremony MCs from Hip-Hope and our keynote speaker, Iowa Department of Human Rights Director San Wong. We would also like to recognize our generous sponsors who made the day possible: WDMCS DEI, WDMCS Community Education, the City of West Des Moines DEI Department, the Clive Community Foundation, DMACC, the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce, Raygun, and the West Des Moines Human Rights Commission. Thank you to our community for supporting this opportunity one student described as “an amazing learning experience”! Learn more about the symposium at https://lnkd.in/gUwFGbkm.
