BLACK HISTORY MONTH What Black History Means to Me Black History Month for me is a celebration and a reminder of the resilience, courage, and excellence associated with the African American culture. I am proud of my heritage and the greatness it reflects. This month serves as a reminder of our journey to overcome adversity, and it honors the legacy of our contributions to the historical success of this nation including key inventions, breakthrough discoveries in medicine, civil rights advocacy, world-class athleticism, music, and much more. Historically, we have endured many struggles in efforts to gain equality and freedom. The younger generation that reap the reward of those struggles must never forget nor take for granted the sacrifices that were made on their behalf. Many individuals in my era were first-generation recipients of a college degree or the first to obtain a higher-level position within a corporation. We stand on the shoulders of those who came before us to open those doors of opportunity, which is all part of black history. For many of us including myself, our parents might have been the first person of color to achieve a milestone. As we honor black history, we must keep the legacy alive.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH What Black History Means to Me Black History is more than a month of remembrance—it is a celebration of resilience, strength, and the unbreakable spirit of a people/ culture who have faced unimaginable obstacles and still soars like an eagle. It is the story of kings and queens before colonization, the courage of those who resisted oppression, and the brilliance of minds that have shaped the world in science, art, politics, and beyond. Black History is about honoring the sacrifices of those before us while uplifting the generations that follow. It is about acknowledging the pain, recognizing the change, progress or lack thereof, and continuing forward to fight for justice and equity. It is both a reflection and a call to action. At Confidential Confessions Counseling, we recognize the deep impact of history on mental health and well-being. We honor the resilience of African Americans and communities who have endured, healed, and thrived despite systemic barriers. Mental health is a critical part of our liberation, and by embracing therapy, self-care, and collective healing, we continue to break cycles of trauma and build a future rooted in strength and empowerment.
