Kristen, our Practice Manager, recently spent some time with future veterinarians, sharing stories about our fantastic exotic animal patients. It was a great opportunity to inspire them and showcase the diverse aspects of veterinary medicine.
I had a fantastic meeting with the Veterinarians Without Borders organization at Texas A&M. I discussed exotic animals in practice and enjoyed sharing interesting cases with these enthusiastic future veterinarians. Gert stole the show, as usual, and had a great time taking alligator selfies with everyone!

Dr. Baggs and the team enjoying some beautiful weather while working cattle.
Let's Talk Team Building! Yesterday, this amazing team had the opportunity to experience some good old cattle work. Most of the team has very little experience with large animals beyond seeing them in the fields or enjoying a tasty hamburger. They did a great job, and the herd is now vaccinated, tagged, branded, banded, and dewormed. The best part of this experience was watching the team work together. I watched as the vets taught the team how to perform the different procedures, and they helped each other take care of each cow and calf. They encouraged each other and made sure that everyone had the opportunity to get their hands dirty and try something they had not done before. It makes me so very proud to watch this amazing team grow together. As we look forward to the new practice and a significantly larger staff, my number one goal is to do my best to maintain this same team feel.

Dr. Baggs and Kristen taking on TVMA (Texas Veterinary Medical Association) this past weekend.
Another great conference on the books! This past weekend Dr. Baggs and I were at the Texas Veterinary Medical Association Conference. I am thankful that we were able to be a part of the Government Relations Meeting and learn more about the legislation that directly effects our industry. We attended some fantastic classes, caught up with old colleagues and left with a renewed excitement for the direction we are taking our practice. I also had the opportunity to catch up with Monica Dixon Perry who was one of the Practice Managers to inspire my path in Veterinary Practice Management and earning my CVPM. Overall another successful conference weekend!

Things are really coming together for our new adventure at WBAC!
Earlier this week Carol Hurst challenged me to come up with my "3 Words for 2024". I enjoy creating goals each year with my team so the thought of a few simple words to focus on for the year appealed to me. ? My words for 2024 are going to be Adapt, Record, and Patience. ? 2024 is going to be a HUGE year. Starting the year with breaking ground on a multimillion dollar practice and boarding lodge is nerve-wracking, but also exciting. ? Adapt: Inevitably there will be many changes, problems, and surprises when it comes to building construction. The change from a 1,500sqft building to a 24,000sqft multi-building facility will not be an easy one. I will need to adapt, even when it is uncomfortable to do so. ? Record: My mind can only remember so much. In order to keep organized and prepare for the drastic changes that 2024 holds, I need to record everything! ? Patience: I am preparing myself now for the delays and hurdles that come with every major construction project. Bonus word - CLARIFY.... seems to be the most important word when dealing with construction contracts. ? Get ready, Get set, GO!!!

Its beginning to look a lot like.......Progress!
Ladies and Gentlemen....We have a road! Welcome to Baggs Court! The land development for West Brazos Animal Center and Pet Lodge is almost complete. What started as a plot of scrub brush is now the beautiful future home of WBAC. Next week we select a contractor and then its time to get these buildings rolling.
