Every (yes, EVERY) student should Google these: 1. 'Skills employers look for in college grads' 2. 'Skills employers look for in [major] grads' Study the results, then ask yourself: "Am I currently/actively developing these skills?" → They look for problem-solving skills? ? Volunteer or work an internship ? Participate in case competitions ? Enroll in design thinking courses → They look for communication skills? ? Attend local Toastmasters events ? Use the campus speaking/writing center ? Work a comms-heavy role (eg. campus tour guide) → They look for leadership skills? ? Become a leader in a student org ? Serve as a tutor or a peer ambassador ? Assume the leader's role in course projects To stand out as an applicant, you need to understand what your target audience is looking for. And then build your skill set accordingly. — Other great way to get this information? 1. Informational interviews with those in your target roles. Ask them: 'What 2-3 skills and knowledge are most important to your success in this role/field?' 2. Job postings Analyze your target roles with ChatGPT: "Copied below are 10 roles I am interested in; analyze them and give me a list of the top skills, knowledge, and abilities I need to become a qualified candidate." 3. National Association of Colleges and Employers articles and Job Outlook Reports.

We are deeply saddened to share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Kelly Navickas, our Operations Director at WeSolv, and a beloved member of our team. Kelly passed away on September 9th while traveling to her hometown in Philadelphia to support her family during a challenging time. She was preparing to celebrate her 27th birthday later this month. Kelly joined WeSolv in April 2023, and in her short time with us, she became an integral part of our team, embodying our mission with unwavering passion and dedication. Kelly truly lived for the values we hold dear, striving every day to make a positive impact and create opportunities for underrepresented candidates. Her warmth, drive, and commitment were felt by everyone who had the privilege of working with her. Kelly was not only a dedicated colleague but also a compassionate and caring individual who was deeply committed to her family. In the coming weeks, she was planning to take on the care of her young nephew, reflecting her generous and selfless nature. In honor of Kelly, WeSolv will be contributing to her funeral services so that her savings can instead go towards the care of her nephew. Kelly’s passing is a tremendous loss for all of us at WeSolv, and her absence will be deeply felt. However, we are committed to carrying forward her legacy and the impact she sought to make in this world. Our work to create a level playing field for underrepresented candidates is more important than ever, and we will continue to push forward with the same passion that Kelly brought to our mission every day. “Do it like Kelly” has become our new mantra. We extend our deepest condolences to Kelly’s family, friends, and all who knew her.
