Last night, I had the pleasure of sharing some thoughts on what it really means to have a positive mental attitude with a group of entrepreneurs. Wanted to share a few thoughts from it… Having a real positive mental attitude is the most dangerous weapon you’ll ever own. Most people are swinging plastic swords and don’t even know it. I’m not talking about the fluffy motivational kind. I mean the kind that keeps you moving forward when everything in you wants to give up. Most people think they’re positive, but it’s more than just being upbeat. Real PMA isn’t about ignoring problems. It is about refusing to let them dictate your response. It is not about waiting for the right time. It is about moving before you feel ready. And it is not something you just wake up with. It is like a muscle that has to be activated every single day. Negativity doesn’t announce itself. It whispers things like, "Be realistic," or "Now’s not the right time." It shows up as hesitation, excuses, and waiting. PMA, on the other hand, pushes forward. It doesn’t look for permission. It finds a way to keep going, no matter what is in front of it. Most people see a storm and run for cover. PMA sees a storm and builds a windmill. You either blame your circumstances or you change them. You either see obstacles or you see opportunity. Some people spend their entire lives explaining why things didn’t work out for them. Others find a way to make it work. One of the biggest takeaways from the night is that PMA isn’t just something you have. It is something you choose and protect. Your environment shapes you more than you think. The people closest to you are either pulling you forward or holding you back. There is no neutral. If you are surrounded by people who make excuses, doubt themselves, and wait for permission, it is only a matter of time before you start doing the same. The life you want is one decision away. The decision to be the kind of person who doesn’t quit, doesn’t make excuses, and doesn’t get taken down by circumstances. No one has ever regretted trying harder. It was a privilege to be in that room and watch people shift their mindset in real time. Some walked out different than they walked in. Maybe you needed this reminder today too.
