In honor of National Coming Out Day, We’re There Films celebrates LGBTQ+ milestones in media. The first queer kiss on screen appeared in D.W. Griffith’s Intolerance (1916), and Candis Cayne became the first openly transgender character on TV in Dirty Sexy Money (2007). Pandora’s Box (1929) also featured one of the earliest lesbian kisses. While progress has been made, the fight for LGBTQ+ rights continues. We honor the trailblazers who’ve brought authentic stories to the screen. #NationalComingOutDay2024 #queervoices?

We believe in telling stories that challenge societal norms and spark meaningful conversations. The Substance is one of those films—its powerful message on body positivity and beauty standards has resonated with many. In a world where media often dictates how we perceive beauty and aging, we're committed to creating content that inspires change. We’d love to hear how media has shaped your views on these issues. Share your thoughts and join the conversation below.

This year has seen a massive increase in media coverage surrounding the horrors of the troubled teen industry, an issue very close to our hearts. Paris Hilton's congressional testimony and Tara Malone's new documentary series "Teen Torture, Inc." have catapulted the vehement discussion geared towards ending this systemic abuse. We ourselves hope to continue to shed light on the detrimental effects these facilities have on America’s youth. We look forward to sharing more on how you can help us contribute our perspective to this revolution.

We're so excited to support the launch of F.L.U.I.D., a production company spearheaded by the formidable Akbar Hamid and Evan Schwartz that is committed to spotlighting LGBTQIA+ stories and creatives. Inclusive storytelling is something we feel incredibly passionate about and we cannot wait to see the remarkable impact they will have on our industry and culture. Congratulations!

The Peanut Butter Falcon,?and more recently,?Ezra.?As conversations of diversity in media become increasingly prolific, we hope for a brighter future for the Disability Community with improvements in authentic representation and inclusivity both on and off camera.

The increase in theater-goers over the past year has, at last, shed a hopeful glow on the future of cinema. With the major box office standing on solid ground, we feel it is important to remind our fellow movie lovers not to forget about the plethora of independent films that may be playing in a theater near you. June has seen the limited release of several woman-directed indies to support, including Ally Pankiw's?'I Used to Be Funny'?and Dana O. Pusic's 'Tuesday'.
