The Midfield Satellite Concourse (MSC) South team at LAX recently hosted participants from the HireLAX Apprenticeship Readiness Program, offering a firsthand look at the construction shaping their community. The cohort toured the nine assembled segments that now form the south concourse of the west gates at Tom Bradley International Terminal and explored career pathways in construction and local trades at Los Angeles World Airports?(LAWA). Using Offsite Construction and Relocation (OCR)—a first for LAX—MSC South was built in nine segments just north of the airport’s northern runways, outside the airfield. This approach reduced construction time by seven months compared to traditional on-site methods. Over 27 nights, during temporary runway closures, the segments were safely transported and set in place with minimal impact on flight operations. To date, MSC South has created jobs for 400 local workers, with local hires completing over 34% of total work hours—exceeding the 30% goal. Six HireLAX graduates have also been placed on the project. ?? Exciting progress update! The skeleton of the Colorado Springs Senior Center is fully installed, and masonry work is underway. The installation of the high-performance TPO roof is a significant milestone. This roof contains two layers of R-15 rigid insulation, a ?” cover board (DensDeck), and a unique mechanically fastened membrane system, providing durable and long-lasting protection. A huge thank you to our #partners Schommer Construction, LLC?and Central States Roofing Company, Inc.?for helping us make this happen. This project’s next major milestone will be to wrap up drywall installation and begin the finishing touches of cabinets, countertops, and floors.
