Their Anthology Fund in partnership with Anthropic is a $100 million initiative accelerating groundbreaking AI applications across sectors. Menlo and Anthropic are also developing AI software to automatically score and rank applications to speed up the investment process. The top applications are invited to present their visions virtually before a final investment decision. Selected startups will have access to Anthropic resources to build AI-powered infrastructure, consumer solutions, and applications that enhance human capabilities. ?? ?? What happens when AI starts taking over the job of VCs? As many people know, I’m a data-oriented investor, and one thing that investors often struggle with is effectively evaluating data. In a bold move, Menlo Ventures has just launched a $100 million fund to invest in AI companies. The twist? Anthropic’s Claude AI will assist in evaluating the applications. “We are using Claude as part of an automation workflow that we built to manage the influx of applications due to the high amount of inbound that we’ve already received,” a Menlo Ventures spokesperson told Observer. I’m excited about this shift because early-stage investments tend to be fairly biased. The best founders are often overlooked and undervalued, and who you know is just as important as what you’ve done and your ability to execute. The Anthropic fund will be a welcome addition to the early-stage pool of capital. However, from my review of their application process, they aren’t asking many of the questions necessary to determine higher outcome probabilities. Applying AI is a step in the right direction, but AI can only act on the data inputs provided.
