Wellstar leaders and team members celebrated the launch of the new Wellstar School of Medical Assisting during a ribbon-cutting ceremony this week. The program, which is open to Wellstar team members, combines classroom learning with hands-on clinical experience. It will take place entirely within Wellstar facilities, taught by Wellstar instructors. Members of the cohort—including certified nursing assistants and front office team members—can complete their certified medical assistant training in just 16 weeks.

The 2025 Wellstar Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Journey Gathering was held at Kennesaw State University last week to celebrate patients and their families whose lives were saved because of access to ECMO. In 2016 Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center established its ECMO program, and it’s still only one of a few locations in Georgia with this advanced life support technology. Wellstar President and CEO Candice L. Saunders, Wellstar Kennestone President Lorrie Liang, Wellstar Pulmonologist Dr. Alan Muster and Wellstar Critical Care Specialist Dr. Asif Saberi were all in attendance to talk about our ECMO program and present awards.
