Wellstar is committed to enhancing the health and well-being of every person we serve, and that includes meeting our neighbors where they are so we can build stronger communities together. Our team lived out our mission November 14 with our annual Day of Service, when hundreds of Wellstar team members volunteered with over 20 organizations across the state. We prepared more than 37,000 meals at Atlanta Community Food Bank locations in Marietta and Atlanta, sorted more than 2,800 pounds of food at Five Loaves and Two Fish Griffin Food Pantry and served 223 families at Warehouse of Hope in Douglasville. Tuberculosis is considered one of the deadliest diseases in the world. Cases are on the rise nationally but dropped in Georgia last year. Wellstar's certified doulas provide emotional and physical support to birthing families throughout pregnancy, labor and delivery, and the postpartum period. Our doulas have been involved in more than 170 births since we began the program about 18 months ago. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution covered how doulas improve maternal health outcomes. Someone Cares Atlanta, part of the Wellstar Community Clinic Network, operates a location in Marietta and two mobile units that travel throughout metro Atlanta. The clinic provides services including primary care, addiction treatment, behavioral health services and lab services. Falls are the leading cause of injury among people 65 and older, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Working on your balance and increasing muscle mass can help you reduce your risk of falling. Today, we recognize Genetic Counselor Awareness Day. The Wellstar Center for Genetics determines if you may develop or carry certain genetic disorders. We have a large team of licensed, board-certified genetic counselors who provide counseling for oncology, cardiovascular, neurological, prenatal and other hereditary genetic conditions.
