On February 19, 1892, Wellspring—then known as the Bureau of Associated Charities of Seattle—took in its first case: a young German immigrant couple, ages 28 and 30. The husband, a former day laborer, was struggling to care for his seriously ill wife. With nowhere else to turn, they found help here. The world has changed dramatically since then—technology has advanced, cities have expanded, and opportunities have grown. Yet, for many families, the struggles remain heartbreakingly familiar. An unexpected illness, the loss of a job, or the uncertainty of keeping a roof overhead—challenges that can push a family to the brink. Through economic shifts, policy changes, and new challenges, one thing has remained constant: Wellspring’s commitment to families in crisis—and the unwavering generosity of a caring community. Because of you—our donors, supporters, and partners—families continue to find stability, hope, and a path forward.
