Dedication Ceremony: Honoring Vision, Resilience, and Community On Friday, December 20, 2024, a transformative moment unfolded at Western Washington University as Coast Salish Elders, WWU students, faculty, and community members gathered to dedicate the Coast Salish Longhouse. What began with a heartfelt letter from WWU's Native American Student Union has evolved into a symbol of collaboration, respect, and shared purpose—a testament to decades of partnership and vision. The Coast Salish Longhouse is more than a structure; it is a sanctuary for healing and connection. For Native communities, it serves as a space to honor resilience and support healing from intergenerational trauma. For the broader community, it offers an opportunity for reflection, understanding, and fostering shared growth toward a more inclusive future. The dedication ceremony was a profoundly moving experience, featuring meaningful offerings to bless the site and honor Indigenous traditions and the land we all share. These moments remind us of the power of cultural preservation and the importance of recognizing the contributions of Indigenous voices in shaping our collective story. We are deeply grateful to everyone who made this vision a reality—from the Native American Student Union who championed this dream to the builders, designers, and advocates who brought it to life. This project is a shining example of what is possible when we come together with purpose and respect. Project Spotlight: Student Living near Western Washington University recently completed. This 9-unit student housing project at the north end of campus stands out for its efficient design and innovative construction. Featuring a structural steel-framed transfer deck, it seamlessly integrates a parking garage below three stories of modern student living above. Compact yet functional, this development offers a perfect blend of convenience, durability, and thoughtful design for the student community.
