Ever feel anxious? This is a simple, effective way to calm your mind and body quickly. Take 2 deep breaths through your nose—fill your belly, fill your chest—gently pause for a moment, then release with a big sigh. Repeat 3-4 times. Here’s why it works: Deep breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, shifting you from stress to relaxation. Pausing helps increase oxygen levels and slow your heart rate. The sigh releases tension and sends signals to your body that you’re safe. Give it a try and feel the shift in just minutes. With any breathing technique, always exercise caution, go slowly, and follow your body. Never practice in water or while operating machinery. One of the most common questions: How should I breathe in the cold plunge? While there’s no “perfect way”, these are helpful principles to follow. ? Breathing slowly will help your body and mind to stay as calm as possible. ? Inhaling through your nose will help slow your breath. ? Exhaling through your pursed lips is an easy way to slow down the exhale. ? Exhaling as you enter the water helps you maintain control of your breath. One of the best parts about cold plunging is building the connection with your breath and how it can help you manage your response to stress.
