Uplifting Adolescents and Young Adults Battling Cancer - Paying It Forward Since 2013

关于我们

The Andrew Weishar Foundation (AWF) was created to honor the memory of Andrew Weishar and his legacy of helping others to live with faith, courage, and strength. Our mission is to provide immediate resources to families with children or adolescents stricken with cancer. We will provide financial assistance to these families in need and dedicate ourselves to these acts of kindness and generosity. Andrew and the Weishar family learned firsthand what many survivors have learned when coping with cancer: ?Acts of kindness – Andrew was constantly amazed and grateful for the endless acts of kindness he received from so many people. ?Financial Burden – When Andrew was diagnosed, the Weishar family quickly realized that, on top of being a physical, mental, and psychological struggle; cancer is an extreme financial burden. ?Escape from the toll of cancer – During Andrew’s 3-year battle, his greatest highlights were the “escapes” from the treatments and realities of his diagnosis. Andrew’s time with his family and moments of everyday, normal activities, provided needed reprieve from the realities he was facing. Prior to Andrew’s passing, in October of 2012, he asked his younger brother Dan to “pay forward” the acts of kindness and generosity he received. In early 2013, AWF was created to honor Andrew’s request of paying it forward, specifically by: providing acts of kindness and generosity; easing the financial burden; and providing a temporary escape.

  • The Battle of Pulaski is so much more than the friendly rivalry between Marist and Brother Rice boys' basketball programs. Each year, we welcome new beneficiaries into the Weish4Ever family to honor Andrew and continue to pay it forward to the Southside community that has supported this foundation and helped bring us to where we are today. On Tuesday, we welcomed both Carey Dickman and Mike Markett. Carey is a mother of Brother Rice Crusaders Colin and Brendan, and after months of uncertainty and surgeries, she received a rare and challenging diagnosis: E.H.E., an aggressive form of vascular sarcoma that affects fewer than one in a million people. Despite facing a diagnosis with no proven treatments, Carey’s grace, strength, and ability to live each day with gratitude inspire us all. Carey is the ultimate mom, wife, friend, and colleague—her love for her family and community shines through in the joy she brings and the love she receives from so many. Mike Markett is a proud Marist graduate whose name is etched in Redhawk history. As a three-year varsity quarterback, he led his team with over 6,700 yards of offense, 78 touchdowns, earning him conference Player of the Year and 1st Team All-State honors. Mike was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma. Such news would break the spirit of most – but not Mike. His unwavering positivity, perseverance, and determination invigorates everyone lucky enough to know him. As he begins treatment in the coming weeks, we have no doubt that Mike will face cancer as he has any other challenge in life... another opponent to defeat. Mike embodies true character—his work ethic, compassion, and care for others inspire everyone around him. Let's give both Carey and Mike another warm Weish4Ever welcome!?

  • Last week, we were able to welcome our first beneficiary of 2025, Stephen T alongside his mom, dad, and aunt. Stephen is currently living with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia, which is a slow-growing cancer of the bone marrow and blood. Now that Stephen has found a medication that works well with not only the cancer, but his body, he selflessly volunteered to be part of a gene study at Northwestern for doctors and researchers to continue studying CML. Thankfully with his medication, routine oncology appointments, family, friends, and his boyfriend, Stephen is able to find stability in this new normal. Plus, he’s coming up on his one year anniversary working in employee benefits! Let’s welcome Stephen to the Weish4Ever family! ??
