Our Parent Support Specialists are generally the first contact with Weinfeld Education Group. Their primary function is to help families feel comfortable in understanding the intake process and the next steps. Parent Support Specialists have a personal connection to our special needs community, most often through first-hand family experiences. WEG may make referrals and recommendations outside of our group for parents who are requesting certain types of therapies. Although we do not accept insurance, families may qualify for a reduced rate for our advocacy services based on a review of financial need. Learn more, complete our Intake Form and contact our Parent Support Specialists at https://lnkd.in/dWrdS4UX . We look forward to working with you and your child! Please share with a parent who would benefit. WISER - DC #advocate #advocates #advocacy

Read thoughts from Rich Weinfeld, Founder, Executive Director and Educational Consultant with Weinfeld Education Group, about how the U.S. Department of Education is taking "a major step backwards in American education." ____________________________ This year, I am proud to be celebrating my 50th year in education. I have observed steady progress in the field of education. Teaching has moved from being an art to a science. It’s now commonly understood that we must teach skills, by using evidence-based interventions provided with fidelity. However, this forward progress in the science of teaching only works when we educators have current research that guides us in what interventions are effective, how they should be applied, and then measures the effectiveness through our students’ achievement. To that end, the U.S. Department of Education has done the following: 1. Fund research studies. 2. Maintain a clearing house, "What Works Clearinghouse," that tracks which interventions are proven and which are not. 3. Implement the National Assessment of Educational Progress ( NAEP ) also known as "The Nation's Report Card” to measure the progress of our students. Also, crucial to us special educators, it is a civil right that this progress in education applies to everyone, regardless of difference or disability. 4. The Office for Civil Rights, Department of Education has worked to ensure that the Civil Rights of students with disabilities have been protected. But now, each of these 4 crucial initiatives are being decimated by the cuts at the U.S. Department of Education. One of the justifications being given is that the funding for education will still be the same, but educational requirements and interventions will be decided upon by local school districts. Tragically, this returns us to where we were in 1975, the year I started teaching. Good intentioned school staff will now be making decisions without the benefit of cutting-edge research, clear evidence of what works and doesn’t, or systematic protections for the civil rights of all students. All of this is a major step backwards with significant impacts for educators and more importantly for the students for whom they are responsible, and about whom they care so much about. I encourage everyone to advocate for a preservation of the progress we have made in education, for the benefit of all our students. Please take action now. Contact your Congressman and United States Senators by using https://lnkd.in/dBBEmpU and let them know that we want the U. S. Department of Education to be staffed and funded at full strength. We are extremely concerned about the cuts in the U.S. Department of Education and how this will impact students who receive special education services. WEG encourages everyone to reach out to their representatives in Congress to express their concerns. Years of progress for students with disabilities may now be lost. This is a pivotal moment.
