NEW! Herd/Population Prescribing is Now Available at Wedgewood.com! Herd/population prescribing refers to the ability to prescribe a single medication for a group of animals who reside together and require the same treatment, without having to write an individual prescription for each animal. It is a great option if you: ?Work with a rancher who has a herd of deer that all require the same medication. ?Work with a zoo or aquarium that has a single species of animals that all require the same medication treatment. ?Work with a research facility that has animals of the same species under a specific researcher that all require the same medication. Example: A trainer is looking to put their entire barn on a GI protectant to support all horses’ stomachs during an upcoming competition. ? While Herd Use still requires a prescription, you can order medications that, per GFI #256 are not available for office stock, but can be prescribed on a patient specific basis for multiple horses within a barn that meet the outlined criteria. ? *Depending on your state, there may be additional restrictions around prescribing for herd use.
