Yesterday, I had the opportunity to attend the Clark University Career and Internship Fair—returning to my alma mater in a different role this time! As I spoke with students, I noticed some great approaches and a few missed opportunities. Career fairs aren’t just about asking for a job—they’re about making meaningful connections. Here are a few ways to make the most of your time: Engage in real conversations – Instead of just asking, “Are you hiring?” try, “I’m interested in learning more about this field. What skills do you look for in interns or new grads?” This helps you stand out and leaves a stronger impression. Carry yourself professionally – Dress in a way that helps you feel like your best professional self, and show enthusiasm. A confident and prepared student is always memorable! Take collateral (and follow up!) – Grab brochures, business cards, or company swag—but don’t let them sit in your bag. Use them as a prompt to connect with recruiters on LinkedIn or send a follow-up email. Research before you arrive – Having a few target companies in mind and asking specific questions shows initiative. “I saw your company is expanding into this area—can you tell me more about opportunities there?” is way stronger than “So… what do you do?” Be open-minded – You never know where a conversation might lead! If it weren't for the Clark career fair in my junior year, I might never have ended up in HR. Keep an open mind—you might discover the perfect opportunity where you least expect it! Career fairs are just the first step. The connections you make now could lead to internships, mentorships, and full-time roles down the road. Use the resources your school provides—career counseling, resume reviews, industry meet-and-greets, and more. There are professionals who want to help you land where you’re meant to be—lean on them!

AVP Branch Manager
Charlton
March 19th of this year will mark my 19th year managing the Charlton Branch of Webster First. During that time, I have seen myself grow both personally and professionally. I have found that I feel more confident, more qualified, and more resilient along my path through the world.
I remember thinking 25 ? years ago when I managed my first bank, ‘who thought I was ready for this?!’ It was pretty much the same feeling I had the first night I brought my son home from the hospital! Since that time I have learned so so much from both my staff and my members. I have learned compassion, empathy, patience and most importantly, to never ever judge what a person is going through.
As a woman, there are some additional challenges that have faced my career. I have stood strong, and established myself as a leader in the community and an example for my peers. Today, I wish that everyone, specifically the women of the world, find an opportunity to really discover their true value by the measure that feels most important to them. Whether it be as a homemaker, Branch Manager, or Prime Minister, we can all find our strength, and be superheroes to those who rely on us.

AVP Branch Manager
Webster
My journey as a woman in a leadership position began 2000. I arrived in the United States from Poland at the end of 1999, and my first job was as a bank teller, which quickly changed into a supervisory position.
From my very first days, I not only had to learn the ins and outs of the banking industry, but I also had to immerse myself in a new culture, language, and way of life. Instead of being fearful, I embraced the diversity and complexity of multicultural communities. I opened myself to the unknown and welcomed it.
Since 2007, I have had the privilege of managing the busiest branch in our credit union—a role I wholeheartedly love. I have dedicated years of service to this institution because its mission and values align with my own. Though there have been challenges and obstacles along the way, I end each day with a sense of fulfillment and accomplishment. Beyond sharing my financial expertise, I strive to lead with empathy and understanding. The meaningful relationships I have built with both members and colleagues have played a vital role in my professional growth.
My achievements would not have been possible without self-discipline, hard work, and accountability. I believe the true key to success lies in adaptability and the ability to embrace others with an open heart. I see beauty in every individual I encounter and make it a point to reflect on those interactions, learning from them, staying humble, and counting my blessings every day.
    • Jenn Gosselin
AVP Branch Manager
Douglas
I started working at the credit union right out of high school, beginning as a teller and working all positions that led up to my role of AVP Branch Manager. I have been with the credit union for a total of 26 years and have managed the Douglas branch since 2006.
It is important to me to love where you work. I have a great relationship with our members and get to witness their personal growth as well. Many have opened up children's savings accounts and I get to open their first checking account and then open their joint accounts with their soon to be spouses. I have helped so many with their first cars and first homes. I have watched them grow their families and bring in their children to open up a savings account. It goes full circle here. It is important to me that everyone feels confident and educated throughout all the major life decisions. We are here for them!
My advice to any woman who aspires to work in a leadership role like mine is simple: Get involved in your community. Volunteer your time and talents to benefit the place you call home.

Employee Appreciation Day may be today, but at Webster First Federal Credit Union we believe appreciation isn’t just a one-day event—it’s a year-round commitment. This week, we set out to celebrate our incredible team with meaningful gestures of gratitude. From the excitement of finding unexpected surprises at their desks to Donut Day (my personal favorite!) and team trivia, we wanted to make sure our employees felt valued and celebrated. But while a dedicated day (or week!) of celebration is wonderful, true appreciation happens every day. A well-timed “thank you,” a moment of recognition, and a culture that prioritizes acknowledgment make all the difference. It’s about ensuring your team feels seen, heard, and valued—every single day. Here’s to celebrating employees today and always! Because appreciation isn’t just a date on the calendar—it’s the foundation of a strong, engaged team.

The employee experience is a journey. I'm here to make sure the ride is fulfilling.

This week, Webster First Federal Credit Union celebrated Employee Appreciation Week with some fun activities and small tokens of appreciation. How did your company celebrate? Appreciation isn't just about the small gestures though - it's about instilling and maintaining a culture of appreciation. Regular recognition leads to better employee morale, engagement, and retention, which in turn leads to a more positive and productive work environment. Only 2% of employees receive daily recognition. But appreciation can't be a checkbox activity - it has to have meaning. Leaders must create environments where teams feel supported by each other. They need to implement spaces for informal recognition - spaces where employees can shout each other out, give kudos, collaborate, and build trust. Teams are circles, not pyramids and need to rely on each other to get the job done and to achieve goals. Gratitude is a mutually beneficial activity. Like giving, gratitude triggers the brain to release dopamine and serotonin in the brain, contributing to feelings of happiness and well-being, and reducing stress for both the giver and the receiver. So, Happy Employee Appreciation Day! Challenge yourself to take a moment today to thank a colleague, coworker, direct report, or someone else on your team today. Smiling is contagious. ?? #happyfriday #employeeappreciationday #humanresources #leadership #hr #gratitude
