3 Years Ago I attended a Conference organised by DigiClan Africa and that was the first time I heard about how challenging Marketing professionals were navigating their way into Web3. I desired to one day transition into web3 marketing but I didn't know where to start, there was so much to read up on, and I am a kinetic learner, knowledge without practice would have little effect on me. So when I finally got into the Web3 marketing space, the first 3 weeks was a rollercoaster. I mean, this was an entirely new terrain for me. Coming from a background in sales, digital strategy and performance marketing, one thing was missing, and that was data. Marketing in Web3 is still in its infancy, the decentralised nature of web3 makes everyone a shark in the ocean, so to break into any territory you will have to defy the learning curve for user connectivity and think more around 1st-party data. I have come to embrace the fact that beyond the learning continium, and no matter your level of experience, when you transition into a new field, you have to embrace the character of a child to actually assimilate and build from the scratch. And for such an uncharted water like Web3, you need to harness the power of a community to avoid getting drowned. Certainly for every career path you choose, you should belong to a community because you can connect, leverage and grow from within. Community is the engine that powers Web3. Think builders communities like Web3Bridge, Web3Afrika If you are in Marketing and looking to transition into Web3 Marketing, one fun DAO I would recommend is Superteam I'm still on the lookout for more recommendations of such communities that fosters growth and inclusivity within the Web3 Ecosystem.

Layer 2 Scaling and Web3 Growth: Reflections from the Web3 Lagos Conference, ETHSafari, and the Web3Afrika x Oasis Protocol Builder Event. Over the past few weeks, I had the privilege of attending the Web3 Lagos Conference, ETHSafari in Nairobi and Kilifi, and impacting builders at the Web3Afrika x Oasis event—and it’s been quite the journey. Each event offered unique insights into the rapidly evolving world of Web3, and I’d love to share both my reflections and a few suggestions for how we can continue improving the space: Web3 Lagos What struck me most was the growth—the number of developers has noticeably increased, which speaks volumes about the progress being made. However, with that growth comes the need for more focused, hands-on workshops to help developers level up their skills. As the ecosystem expands, deeper technical training and mentorship will ensure that growth translates into more robust solutions. I also enjoyed reconnecting with my fellow builders and listening to a creative explanation of Zero Knowledge Proofs using apples ??—a fun and engaging talk that made a complex topic accessible! ETHSafari The diversity of attendees at ETHSafari really stood out to me—people from all over Africa coming together to collaborate and build. However, I believe it’s time we start having more open discussions around regulation and adoption strategies across Africa. There’s a lot we can learn from regions like LATAM, where Bitcoin and blockchain are more widely accepted, and these lessons could help shape the future of Web3 in Africa. The train ride to Mombasa was a personal highlight—having deeper conversations with builders about their motivations and roadblocks was incredibly insightful. Web3Afrika x Oasis At this event, I had the opportunity to speak on Layer 2 solutions and their impact on scaling Ethereum. One key point I emphasized was that while Layer 2 solutions alleviate some of Ethereum’s biggest challenges, like high gas fees and transaction speed, they don’t sidestep the issues—they work in harmony with Ethereum’s Layer 1, providing immediate scalability while preserving decentralization and security. Layer 2 is a vital component in the broader roadmap for Ethereum’s evolution. The event also featured exciting mini-hacks, where builders created functional solutions in real-time. Watching the joy on the mini-hack winner’s face reminded me of the pure fulfillment that comes from solving real problems. To elevate the impact of these hacks, I suggested pairing them with ongoing mentorship to help winners turn their projects into long-term success stories. Overall, these events reaffirmed the power of community and collaboration in Web3, but they also highlighted areas where we can do better. Focused skill development, more strategic discussions on regulation, and ongoing mentorship are just a few ways we can continue pushing the ecosystem forward. The future of Web3 in Africa looks bright, and I am happy to be a part of it.
