There is no equitable economic recovery without shared ownership of our economy and its businesses.
关于我们
The Democracy at Work Institute expands the promise of cooperative business ownership to reach those communities most directly affected by social and economic inequality. It ensures that further growth in the worker cooperative movement is both rooted in worker cooperatives themselves and reaches out to new communities of worker-owners.

Hear the experiences of the fellows from the Northeast Transition Initiative (#NETI) ???? Let’s keep growing employee ownership in the Northeast ?
That's a wrap! The Northeast Transition Initiative (#NETI) Fellowship Retreat wrapped up last week, and before they headed home, we asked some of our fellows what they took away from the 2-day event. Watch the video to hear what they said. During the retreat, fellows got a chance to learn about the unique issues affecting their business communities and potential options for preserving businesses and jobs, such as employee ownership. Over the course of the next 9 months, fellows will strengthen their knowledge and gain resources to support business owners in planning for their future. We are so honored to be a part of the Northeast Transition Initiative (#NETI), an initiative created to support businesses moving from a traditional model to one that is worker owned. ????
We are honored to present the second cohort of the Northeast Transition Initiative (#NETI) Fellowship! Yesterday marked Day One of the Kickoff Retreat in Manchester, NH, bringing together a diverse group of fellows representing organizations supporting small businesses across New England and New York. On day one, we discussed the issue of a "Silver Tsunami" of baby boomer business owners who plan to retire in the next few years without a succession plan, posing a great threat to businesses, job preservation, and growth in our communities. Over the course of the next 9 months, fellows will be given the knowledge and resources to support business owners in understanding their succession planning options, including employee ownership. Our amazing second cohort brings deep knowledge of the communities they serve and we are so excited to learn with them through this fellowship program. Thank you for participating! Learn how YOU can help build economic security for immigrant communities by supporting worker ownership! Immigrant workers often face exclusion from quality jobs due to systemic barriers, but worker cooperatives offer a powerful solution. Worker ownership and cooperatives have long been regarded as a viable economic development strategy, especially for excluded workers. Because of this, California's SEED program decided to empower immigrant workers through funding for cooperative development. More recently, in the face of state budget cuts, a coalition of cooperative development experts, community-based organizations, and worker leaders known as the California Worker Ownership Collaborative (CWOC), have leveraged $2 million in philanthropic funding to sustain the vibrant ecosystem of worker-owned small businesses developed with the CA SEED funding. Register for the Promise of Worker Cooperatives to Build Economic Security for Immigrant Communities on February 13 at 10am PT. Learn all about the successes and lessons learned from the worker centers and cooperative development nonprofits that participated in California’s SEED program, and their continued collaboration to strengthen the co-op ecosystem.
