    Relationships are king and they will be the #1 factor for successful selling moving forward. In all of the companies I've worked at I sold/talked to different personas, different departments, different everything. It is often considered hurtful to your career progression when you switch industries. All that tribal knowledge, all those relationships..gone. WRONG. I just talked to a former customer from my first job in a completely different industry. The relationship + timely and relevant messaging is why we talked. You never know when a connection, a conversation, or a relationship will circle back around to relevance. Don't discard any of them that you have made along the way.

But, in all seriousness, just like no prospect is ever going to remember that brutal cold call you made when you got distracted and called them “dad,”?     Sales Leaders with Big Tech on their resume cannot help you grow your startup. ? Pre Product Market Fit requires dirty, scrappy, determination that can fly in the face of ambiguity with no enablement. The flashy fancy pedigree your VC is recommending is used to a soft cushioned seat on the throne of a well-oiled machine with a clear instruction manual. The kind of Sales Leader who can help you win logo recognition will not come from a logo you recognize. Look for the signs in their resume that show they’ve found success in the trenches of a no-name company with scarce resources. They know what systems and processes need to be built because they had to build them for themselves.? Hire for resourcefulness when you don’t yet have resources.
