As the duo confirm #Zeeland in the #Netherlands as the site for their latest #fishfarming venture, WeAreAquaculture caught up with the land-based #aquaculture trailblazers to find out more about the project, as well as an update on their #RAS technology business, Farm in a Box, which has recently announced new collaborations with Denmark’s GreenScale Hub and ReelData AI. ?? “We still have the conviction that the best use of RAS or land-based technology is to aim for this trifecta of high value species that works well in RAS, deployed in an area where it's not otherwise available. #BlackCod is one of the highest value species," says Ohad Maiman. ?? “If you want to make our #foodsystems more CO2 neutral, it makes sense to farm more fish. And if you want to integrate that into the food production systems around the world, it just has to be land-based,” says Thue Holm. ??? ?? #Spain, #France, and #Italy have requested the European Commission to impose a moratorium on the #fishing management measures in the #Mediterranean for 2025. ? The trawl #fleets operating in the Mediterranean have made considerable efforts since 2020, and more time is needed for the positive effects on #fish population dynamics to become fully visible. ?? Oceans and Fisheries Ministry of the New Zealand Government announced five new Aquaculture Settlement Areas (ASAs) to ensure Ngāi Tahu - the main Māori #iwi (tribe) of the #SouthIsland - shares in the opportunities #aquaculture offers for Southland's #economy. ???????????? ??The five #ASAs now announced are #offshore from Port Pegasus, Rarotoka South, Rarotoka North, Ruapuke, and Port Adventure. ??? "The Aquaculture Settlement Areas I'm announcing today set aside space so the Crown and Ngāi Tahu can assess their potential for aquaculture development. They make up a collective 8787ha and include areas suitable for salmon, mussel, and seaweed farming," Shane Jones, New Zealand's Oceans and Fisheries Minister. ??
