According to #Radarinn, the Icelandic fisheries and aquaculture industry directory, this is "significantly more than in January 2024."? ?? The Netherlands, with sales of around ISK 1.6 billion (EUR 10.9 million / USD 11.8 million), and Denmark with approximately ISK 900 million (EUR 6.1 million / USD 6.6 million), were the next countries in terms of value. ?? "It will be interesting to see how the market for Icelandic salmon in the U.S. develops in the coming months, especially in light of planned #tariff increases. In response to the #tariffs imposed by the United States on certain European products and other trading partners, the European Commission is working on a series of countermeasures to "protect European #businesses, #workers, and #consumers from the impact of these unjustified #trade restrictions." ?? For this reason, the?EU?has started the process of imposing additional countermeasures targeting certain U.S. #products, such as "certain #seafood," that will target approximately €18 billion worth of goods. ?? ?? #Brands and #retailers can play vital role in protecting stocks of small #pelagics, according to the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), which has now released this year's MSC Small Pelagics Yearbook. ?? The #MSC warns that disagreements over #fishingquotas coupled with growing demand for pelagic species such as #herring, #bluewhiting and #mackerel - both for human #consumption and #aquafeed - threatens their long-term #sustainability. ?? “Retailers and brands have a huge role to play in driving momentum towards greater availability of certified small #pelagic #fish in the #supplychain. In addition to species that are in the pipeline towards certification, the necessary changes to #quota setting for stalwart species such as Atlantic mackerel, blue whiting, and Atlanto-Scandian herring need to be made to allow their return to MSC’s program," said Nicolas Guichoux, MSC’s Chief Program Officer. ? ?? Norwegian #aquaculturetechnology supplier AKVA group is selling its 21.55% stake in #marine services group Abyss AS to Arcus Infrastructure Partners LLP. ?? In a stock exchange announcement, #AKVA said the net proceeds from the sale will stand at approximately NOK 140 million (€12m). ?? In a separate announcement, Victor Jensen, Founder and CEO of #Abyss, described the acquisition of shares by Arcus as “a landmark transaction for the company, enabling us to achieve our ambitious goals for the company in the years to come,” and said Abyss aimed to “develop into one of the world's leading #aquaculture #servicevessel companies”. ? The plan was launched at the weekend by NZ Oceans and Fisheries Minister Shane Jones, at the #Havelock #Mussel and #Seafood Festival in #Marlborough, New Zealand. ?? “The [aquaculture] industry brings in $760m in annual revenue and employs more than 3000 #Kiwis. The Development Plan sets out the steps we will take to grow it to a $3b a year industry and double the #jobs," Jones said. ?? Nordic Halibut AS has reached an #agreement with Pure Norwegian Seafood AS that will secure its long-term #processing capacity. ?????????? ?? In addition, it has also agreed with the #main #shareholder, M?s?val AS, on a call option to acquire 100% ownership. ??? "With this #partnership, we are taking the final step toward achieving full control over our entire #value #chain — from genetics to harvesting, processing, and value-added production," Edvard Henden, Nordic Halibut CEO. ?? The Norwegian #halibut #farmer said access to Pure Norwegian Seafood's processing plant will be a key factor in the planned expansion of its production volumes in the coming years.? ?? The goal is to reach an annual production of 10,350 HOG tons by 2031. ?? Nordic Halibut expects to integrate qualified Pure Norwegian Seafood personnel into its operations. ?? ?? ?? The University of Bristol has conducted a study that highlights the positive correlation between children's behavioral development and?#fish #consumption. In more detail,?the study?alerts that children who had not consumed fish regularly ended up being less "prosocial". ?? 'Children of the 90s'?data were obtained from questionnaires completed by 5,969 parents of children ages 7 and 9 during two years and adjusted for #social and #demographic factors. ????
