So incredibly blessed by the Talanton Bringing Hope Celebration at Glen Eyrie castle this week! My cup is full and overflowing as I ponder how God is knitting together his family across continents, generations, socioeconomic groups, and denominations to pull down heavenly culture and values through impact investing. From Kentegra Biotechnology Holdings LLC scaling their business and seeing the fields white with pyrethrum to Masaka Farms majority deaf employees business becoming an engine of blessing to support the severely disabled in Rwanda. Impact can feel very abstract… until we connect it to specific people. (This one is worth the read!) It’s the “Story of 3 Davids” It started with David, the farmer, in rural Kenya. He was renting a home for his wife and 7 children and struggling to put food on the table. Then God brought along David S. (and his partners) with a strong blend of business skills, compassion, and holy ambition. He was in his “Halftime” season and followed God into the challenging assignment of starting an impact fund in East Africa with a vision to alleviate poverty through jobs. Talanton was born. Then God brought David Tolmie and many others board members and engaged investors like him: highly successful business people with that same compassion. Love-motivated investors, willing to supply capital and know-how, connections and prayer covering. One of their early investments was in a business that would change David the farmer’s life. Today, David produces more crops through training he has received from Kentegra Biotechnology Holdings LLC. In addition to growing food for his family, he grows pyrethrum- a drought resistant flower crop valuable as an ingredient for an organic pesticide and herbicide. They pay him a fair price for his crop, every two weeks. This additional stable income has allowed David to purchase his home, add on to it, and send his children to school. He even tithes to his local church, stating that he knows it is God who makes crops grow and gives him strength to work his fields. Kids educated. Families fed. Dignity and hope restored through opportunity, not hand outs. High quality, earth-friendly export created. Investors rewarded. God glorified. That’s what impact looks like. ????

Yesterday’s site visits with Talanton: Burn Manufacturing & BioFarms…both very impressive! Burn’s highly efficient cook stoves are low carbon, inexpensive to operate, and save lives by reducing instances of carbon monoxide related deaths. Win-win-win! BioFarms has a thriving export business sending avacados to Europe and their oil to the U.S. They provide support, training, and economic opportunity to small farmers and are working to expand organic farming practices.
