The project encompasses an immersive art exhibition, stakeholder engagement to build support networks for affected women, and educational workshops and conferences with activists to facilitate artistic expression, foster meaningful dialogue, and inspire action to combat gender-based violence. When women come together to fight for their communities, real change takes place… Astrid Peraza Juárez’s “Mujeres del Manglar” (“Women of the Mangrove”) is a documentary set in Manzanillo, a small fishing village on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast that struggles with poverty, government neglect, and the impacts of climate change. In response to this adversity, the women of Manzanillo join forces to establish the Mudecoop Cooperative. The documentary follows the mangrove growth cycle while telling stories of personal growth across three generations of women, showcasing the transformative power of women-led community projects. “The Creatives” Youth To The Front Fund Frontliners use their voice and the power of art to address systemic oppression. Through the Knowledge Transfer Network - DJing in the Club program, B.A.D. is sharing expertise from leading DJs, bridging technological gaps that impact Black women, queer, non-binary, and differently-abled people in the community, empowering a new generation of DJs, and entrenching the community spirit across generations. Badr, Ed.M., “The Creatives” 2024 Frontliners, USA Narratio is an organization and online platform that activates, supports, and highlights the creative expression of displaced young people through fellowships, workshops, publishing, and partnerships. Through their year-long flagship program, the Narratio Fellowship, resettled refugee youth learn to share stories across diverse contexts and receive media training, leadership development, networking support, and academic advising, ultimately shaping the global conversation around displacement and cultural production. “My creative, professional, and academic pursuits have always centered the ways art can, and does, interrogate and unsettle systems of inequality.” — Thando Mlambo, “The Creatives” 2024 Frontliner, Zimbabwe Femme Sonic Powerhouse, presented by multidisciplinary creative Thando Mlambo’s Dark Art Matter (DAM) laboratory for ideas, is a community-centered platform dedicated to training and promoting femme DJs while positively contributing to the local culture in Zimbabwe. The project will pair professional femme DJs with aspiring DJs for a weekend intensive and offer an innovative curriculum that foregrounds contemporary experimental processes. Through Youth To The Front Fund, we’re supporting artivists like Thando as they work to create opportunities for fellow creatives in their communities.
