Heads up. This is a long post. But it’s a good one: How do you define #impact? For us it’s by moving the needle forward for our young people. I met Charmiana Marcelle “Nana” two years ago while teaching one of our Cinematography courses. She was sharp and ambitious. She set her sights on wanting to attend Clark Atlanta University ,a very prominent HBCU. I reached out to my friend, Professor Elayna Christine, M.A. to help guide her on how to navigate enrollment, financial aide, scholarships etc. She got in! Nana recently sent me a picture of her at her new school, a proud moment. She wants to be a #Film #Director, and I believe that she can make it. The moral of this story is that many of us are facing barriers. Many of us come from underserved communities. Many of us had to overcome adversity. We all deserve a shot, and we just need a friend, a mentor, or an advocate that believes in us. Let’s work together to remove barriers and create pathways for young people to advance. I would love to know, who helped you? Was there someone that impacted your life and helped you throughout your journey? Or maybe it’s the other way around, and you are the change agent.
