Deportation on a mass scale wouldn’t just harm families—it would devastate our economy. A new report from Americans For Tax Fairness reveals that mass deportations would shrink the U.S. economy by $1.1 to $1.7 trillion, a contraction even worse than the 2008 financial crisis. Undocumented immigrants are essential economic contributors—in 2022 alone, they paid $96.7 billion in taxes, including billions in federal, state, and local contributions. In most states, they pay a higher tax rate than the top 1% of earners. Beyond the numbers, these are people—parents, workers, neighbors—who help build our communities every day.
