关于我们

WDIY is a listener-supported public radio station and NPR station based in the Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania which has been broadcasting since 1995. We serve the community of eastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey with award-winning NPR programs like Morning Edition and All Things Considered along with locally-produced programs exploring political, financial, and cultural topics in the Lehigh Valley. In addition to news and public affairs, WDIY is also home to an eclectic mix of music programs. Classical, folk, jazz, blues, indie rock, world music, and more can be heard on WDIY every week. We are committed to providing our listeners with the most wide-ranging mix of stimulating music for the community we serve--a mix of music that isn't available on any other Lehigh Valley radio stations. WDIY operates on a unique community model that relies on over 120 dedicated volunteers, including over 90 volunteer on-air hosts who work to bring the station's programming to listeners year-round. Recently, our community-driven focus on the arts was recognized by the Allentown Arts Commission with the 2019 Art Ovation Award for Outstanding Service to the Arts. The station is licensed to the Lehigh Valley Community Broadcasters Association, Inc., an accredited 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The largest--and most reliable--source of support for the station comes from member contributions. All membership donations made to WDIY are tax-deductible. WDIY can be heard at: • 88.1 FM in the Lehigh Valley and beyond • 93.9 FM in Easton/Phillipsburg • 93.7 FM in Fogelsville/Trexlertown • Streaming Online: wdiy.org

As part of the Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center’s recognition of Women’s History Month, we’re highlighting women in positions of power across the Lehigh Valley. This week, we’re focusing on Margaret McConnell (she/her), Executive Director at WDIY 88.1 FM Lehigh Valley Public Radio. McConnell will be honored at our 2025 Ridin’ with Pride GAY-LA, where she will receive the award for Incredible LGBTQ+ Community Leader. McConnell’s role at WDIY includes, “managing all aspects of the not-for-profit station’s operations with a focus on community and corporate partnerships, audience outreach, membership, fundraising, fiscal growth and fostering a collaborative, inspiring environment for the WDIY team.” McConnell feels that being a woman in leadership is “incredibly meaningful,” and she “couldn't imagine doing it anywhere but the Lehigh Valley.” She especially values the support of other non-profit leaders in the area. McConnell is a long-time financial contributor to the Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center. She tries to attend every major event at the center, and even served on the board for 2 years. McConnell says her proudest accomplishment is “my 25 year relationship with my partner, Carrie Eglinton. I'm proud that I opened myself up to her love and I'm proud that we have a strong loving relationship.” She loves spending time with her “rowdy group of lesbian friends,” and says her favorite thing to do is “reading a book with my three cats nearby.”

Passionate about serving community with a focus on building relationships and connecting people and organizations for success; ambitiously pursuing a more equitable community that lifts up all voices.

Did you know that there is Celtic and Irish Reggae music? Neither did I until WDIY 88.1 FM World Bob Program host, Miguel Carey "Dragon Stout," played some of it on his show yesterday in honor of St. Patrick's Day. Our program hosts have such a deep breadth of knowledge and passion for music and they love to share it with our listeners. Why would I mention a music show that already played, you may be wondering? All of our music shows can be listened to for 13 days after the air date by going to our website's archive at https://lnkd.in/eXRsG8uB. Playlists can also be found for each show by visiting the website https://lnkd.in/eRNJW7JM and clicking on the show's logo. 🍀🍀Give Sunday's show a listen today as you celebrate St. Patrick's Day. 🍀 🍀

  • On tonight's episode of Active Lehigh Valley, generously supported by St. Luke's University Health Network, host Margaret McConnell dives into the benefits of swimming with Daphne Ghirardi from River Crossing YMCA. It airs tonight at 6:00PM or you can listen anytime on our website, WDIY App, or wherever you get your podcasts. https://lnkd.in/e6FHPnE3

Passionate about serving community with a focus on building relationships and connecting people and organizations for success; ambitiously pursuing a more equitable community that lifts up all voices.

I've been a listener of public media, including WDIY, since I was a kid watching Sesame Street on PBS. In college, I was commuting back and forth at night from Allentown to Wilkes-Barre. Public radio stations were some of the only stations I could get in between those two cities. It opened my ears to jazz standards like My Funny Valentine and Strange Fruit. I expanded my musical knowledge further from commercial pop and rock, to Adult Alternative, Americana, and Folk because of public radio opening a much larger world of fantastic musicians. I had many a drive-way moment sitting in my car until a story finished on NPR. And now as Executive Director at WDIY 88.1 FM I am immersed in the daily activities of producing compelling, community-centric news and information and providing access to eclectic, niche music genres. I am living public media's value!   Today is Protect My Public Media day -- a good day to join the 75% of Americans who support continued public funding of public media.   Learn more at https://lnkd.in/ePBGkigA.
