Last week we celebrated an exciting milestone at THEARCIV- the topping out of the new home of The Washington School for Girls! The new 33,000 square foot school will feature a science lab, yoga/fitness room, library, art studio, and cafe. The school is being built to be LEED Silver Certified, with a green roof, solar panels, and bio-retention pond. A huge thank you to our partners WC Smith, Building Bridges Across the River, Sanchez Palmer Architects ,our subcontractors, and our project team for making this vision a reality. With every beam we are building a foundation for learning, growth, and opportunity that will impact generations to come. Over the past few weeks, the project team and subcontractors have reached major milestones on-site: wet utilities are now underway, all drilled concrete piers have been poured and finalized and preparation for wall install starts. Transformation Thursdays! Today we feature 1313 L Street in NW Washington DC. ?? This office to residential conversion transforms an underperforming office building into a 222-unit apartment community which has added much needed housing to DC’s central business district. The project has repurposed the existing garage structure and first two floors as a podium and added 9 new levels of metal stud-bearing wall. The various amenities include a central courtyard, penthouse clubroom, gym and covered outdoor entertainment areas as well as other in unit amenities. See how this project evolved from start to a stunning completion. As steel erection continues at THEARC IV students from Washington School for Girls and THEARC-Building Bridges Across the River as well as other partners gathered last week to sign a steel beam that will now be part of the structure. It is Construction Suicide Prevention Week and it is important to learn that the construction industry has the second highest rate of suicide in the United States according to the CDC.
