Alexandra helped pass the first national legislation to allow for the resentencing of criminalized survivors. We will be presenting grants to 9 local organizations that provide legal services to support at-risk women and girls. We are also honoring our 2025 WBA Foundation Champion, Gaffar Chowdhury, CAP?. When you support the WBA Foundation, you support organizations in our community that provide legal services to at-risk women and/or girls. Our grantees work with survivors of domestic abuse, sex trafficking, and coerced debt, and help those needing immigration, employment, and custody assistance. @Ayuda provides legal, social, and language services to help low-income immigrants access justice and transform their lives. Ayuda’s expert and dedicated professionals help immigrants from anywhere in the world navigate the immigration and justice systems and access the social safety net. Since 2016, Ayuda has represented a Central American woman seeking U visa protection as a survivor of domestic violence and stalking. This client testified in court against her abuser, remaining resolute throughout a combative cross-examination by her abuser’s counsel. In the end, Ayuda’s client prevailed—her abuser was convicted and, most importantly, her U visa was granted after six long years of waiting. This client and her children now live happily in the US without the constant threat of deportation, thanks to the immigration protections granted by their U visas.
