#Serbia’s first waste-to-energy plant, supported by?MIGA?and?IFC - International Finance Corporation, was officially opened last week. The plant will thermally treat more than half of the city of Belgrade’s non-hazardous waste, transforming it into heat and electricity. It replaces a 40-year-old unsanitary landfill in Vinca, a suburb of Belgrade. Yann Burtin, Head of Western Europe, represented MIGA at the ceremony.

Last Thursday at #COP29 in Baku, I was proud to launch a Letter of Authorization (LoA) template to facilitate guarantee issuance for private investors engaged in Article 6 carbon markets. This innovation will improve the legal rights to carbon credits and aim to mitigate key political risks associated with the delivery and use of carbon credits - driving The World Bank and MIGA climate action. The LoA template is part of a broader World Bank LoA package which consists of template documents and guidance for countries to authorize carbon market activities. The event benefited from the participation of important market experts including Benedict Chia of National Climate Change Secretariat, Singapore, Francesco La Camera of International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Marie Owens Thomsen of International Air Transport Association (IATA), Dirk Forrister of IETA, and Margaret Kim of Gold Standard.
