The annual all-staff Thanksgiving Meal is one of our favorite days of the year at Wayside Waifs. It's a day of gratitude and reflection for our team as we come together for a shared meal. Wayside staff are grateful for each other, our generous and loyal donors, dedicated volunteers, and compassionate adopters. Together, we are creating a more compassionate world for both pets and people. Here's to the next 80 years of service to the animals, the people that love them, and our community. Wayside Waifs is humbled to be part of the Spay & Neuter Collaborative of Kansas City. This important collaboration of 10 area animal welfare organizations provides free spay/neuter surgeries to pet owners that simply aren't able to afford these important services for their pets. Wayside is proud to be a member of the Spay & Neuter Collaborative of KC. Our third and final spay/neuter event is coming up soon with 297 surgeries scheduled. Through the event we are providing free spay and neuter surgeries for pet parents that would otherwise not be able to afford this important service. We are so grateful for our supporters that have made this program possible - however, this month's event isn't quite fully funded. Wayside Waifs joins our Kansas City community in grieving the loss of Don Hall, Sr. Don was a Kansas City icon. A description that is rarely used, but definitely earned by Don. He was an icon in business, in philanthropy, and as a dedicated family man. Don, in partnership with his late wife Adele, believed in giving back to help those most in need. They understood the power of pets in our lives and chose to invest in Wayside's life-saving mission for more than two decades. Through their visionary leadership, savvy business guidance, and compassionate natures, they helped transform Wayside from a small, struggling animal shelter into a nationally recognized animal welfare organization. We will be forever grateful to both of them. While many knew Don as a business and civic leader. Wayside had the honor to know Don's "lighter side," which was often on display at our annual Fur Ball Gala when he and Adele would embrace the Fur Ball theme and dress up in costume! Our condolences to the Hall Family, the Hall Family Foundation, the Hallmark Cards Family, and to Kansas City. With Don's passing, we've truly lost an icon. However, we are confident that Don and Adele's legacies will live on in perpetuity through the good works at Wayside Waifs, Children's Mercy Foundation, The Nelson Atkins Museum, and the many other organizations they believed in, and so generously gave to. While there are many wonderful photos of Don available to share - that capture various moments of his incredible life - the below photo of him, surrounded by his dogs and the love of his life, Adele, is how we are remembering him today and forever. #Hallmark #DonHall #legacy

What a season! Tail wags and purrs to Royals player Vinnie Pasquantino and The Kansas City Royals Foundation, Kansas City Royals for supporting the shelter pets at Wayside Waifs this year. Vinnie had a special "Pasqwich" sandwich that folks enjoyed this season at Kauffman Stadium. A portion of Pasqwich sandwich sales went to the shelter pets. And in May the annual Bark at the Park event welcomed our furry, four-legged friends to a baseball game to cheer on the Boys in Blue, with special ticket proceeds benefiting Wayside. Congrats on a grrreat season!

Working together, we can do so much more. Many years ago a national animal welfare organization used to organize and sponsor a "mega adoption event" in our community and nationally. They decided to change their funding choices and discontinued their initiative. But the animal welfare folks in KC wanted to continue the city-wide collaboration because we saw the amazing results it was creating for the animals in KC...thus creating KC MegaMatch! This year's KC metro-wide event is being powered by our friends at Petco Love and @Bobs from Sketchers. Oct. 11-13, seven area animal welfare organizations are partnering together to find forever, loving homes for 800 homeless animals. All pet adoptions have been reduced to $25.
