It’s been four months since Hurricane Helene devastated WNC, and “back to normal†still feels far off for many. At Waypoint, we believe the freedom and beauty of mountain adventures bring life and health to our community—but right now, some are still focused on simply getting back into their homes! How does this rebuilding happen? Together. In 2025, between our adventure programs, we’re committed to supporting the rebuilding effort. This month, we teamed up with Valley Hope Church to help a family displaced by the storm. We laid subfloor, installed baseboards, and tackled some cleaning. It was a rewarding day, and we’re honored to be part of this vital work. When we all pitch in, we don’t just rebuild homes—we rebuild community! #UnitedWithWNC #RebuildBuncombeCounty #HeleneRecovery #HurricaneHelene #FreeWhatsPossible #ImageDescriptions in alt text

We are grateful to be a part of this legacy!
15 Years Ago, We Asked: What If? ? What if adventure could truly be for everyone? No barriers. No limits. Just the joy, opportunity, and magic of the outdoors, open to all. That bold “what if†lit a spark. And that spark ignited a movement—one that's grown bigger than we ever imagined. Because of YOU—our incredible participants, volunteers, and donors—this passion has grown into an organization that supports individuals, families, and communities throughout New England and more recently, North Carolina. ? Throughout 2025, we’re celebrating 15 years of Waypoint Adventure! Join us on the 15th of each month as we share milestones, memories, and stories about what it means to free what's possible. ? #15YearAnniversary #FreeWhatsPossible #AdventureReady #ExploreMore #AccessibilityMatters #BreakBarriers #PushYourself #OutdoorsForAll #OutdoorEducation #ImageDescription in alt text

The suspense is over! The new addition to Waypoint Adventure NC is not really new at all. She’s just been transferred south! Theresa Scott started at Waypoint Adventure MA in 2022 - bringing with her a variety of leadership experience and outdoor expertise. She jumped right in as a Program Coordinator and quickly became an incredible asset to the team. Theresa is flexible, fun, bright, talented, and has a breadth of experience managing risk and groups in the outdoors. "We’re thrilled to welcome Theresa to the Waypoint NC team! Her passion for empowering others through adventure will be a huge asset to our growing community. I can’t wait to see the impact she’ll make here!" says Adam Combs, M.Ed., Waypoint Adventure Co-Founder and NC Director. Dan Minnich, Co-Founder and Executive Director, MA shared: "We already miss Theresa in Massachusetts, but I'm so glad she is bringing her skill set to NC. Having two locations does provide a unique opportunity for staff who are interested in staying with Waypoint but want a change in location. We see this as a big win and look forward to continuing to work with Theresa - just in a different capacity." Welcome to WNC Theresa! P.S. If you or someone you know is interested in job opportunities at Waypoint Adventure, stay in touch! We're always on the lookout for skilled people that are excited about our mission. Send us an email to tell us about yourself! #OutdoorJobs #828isGreat #LoveYourWork #TeamWaypoint #NonProfitJobs #ExperientialEducation #TripLeaderJobs #ImageDescriptions in alt text.

Adam Combs, M.Ed. is the Director of Waypoint Adventure NC and one of the organization’s Co-Founders from 2010. He's an avid adventurer, live music enthusiast, and prefers his Pop Tarts unfrosted. (WHAT!?). ? Ryan Carlson joined the team in 2023 as Waypoint Adventure NC’s Deputy Director. His talents and quirky sense of humor are matched only by his passion for cooking the perfect venison backstrap dinner. ? Shelby Hampton LRT,CTRS came on board in 2023 as a Program Coordinator and has been a vital part of building Waypoint NC from the ground up.
