Our mission is dedicated to enriching lives and strengthening communities through art.   • We’re excited to share that we recently received a grant from the Wayne County Community Foundation and our local Walmart to help with energy efficient lighting in our building. This will enhance the experience for all those taking classes here at the art center (no more flickering bulbs and dim rooms!)   • Happy #MugshotMonday! Today we have Dennis O'Connell of the Magical Theatre Company. Dennis began his career in the Theatre as a professional actor while still in elementary school. Before graduating from the University of Akron, he became the Director of Drama at Walsh Jesuit HS. He then spent six years as a free-lance stage actor and director, working in 16 states. Dennis began directing professionally in 1989, as well as working in arts administration. He has had the pleasure of directing or acting with Connie Britton, Jami Gertz, Melina Kanakaredes, Doug McKeon, and Kelly Preston, as well as internationally known playwrights Fred Carmichael and Aurand Harris. Professional affiliations include: Ohio Alliance for Arts Education, Ohio Citizens for the Arts, Association of Fundraising Professionals, and SAG-AFTRA. He is Past President of the former Akron Area Arts Alliance, as well as being in Leadership Akron’s Barberton Community Leadership Institute. He was named Co-Producing Director of Magical Theatre Company in 1992 - making him one of the longest-tenured arts leaders in Summit County. He shares the title of Co-Producing Director with his wife, the wonderful and redoubtable Holly Barkdoll.     Print Instructor and Ohio Teaching Artist

    My coworker Claire Bond and I have gotten the opportunity to curate and organize a print event which happens in two days! This Thursday, January 23, is the opening reception of Other People’s Prints and a Free Print Event at the Wayne Center for the Arts. This exhibition is entirely made up of 20 printmakers from all over North America like Cynthia Petry, Dusty Herbig, Kristin Powers Nowlin, and Valerie Syposz. Both the opening reception and print event are free and accessible to artists of all ages and abilities. If you’re able to, you should stop by the Wayne Center for the Arts on January 23, from 5 - 8 pm. The WCA’s address is 237 S. Walnut St., Wooster, Ohio 44691.
