?? 3.6 billion people don’t have access to toilets. Read that again. Sanitation is a human right, but billions still live without a safe place to go. Toilets aren’t just about comfort—they’re a vital line of defense against disease, pollution, and insecurity. For women and girls especially, access to a toilet means protection, dignity, and the chance to go to school or work without risking their health. Every day, around 1,000 children under 5 die because of unsafe water, sanitation, and hygiene. This is preventable. Improving access to clean water and sanitation could save 1.4 million lives each year. It’s not just a goal—it’s a matter of life and death. If you have a toilet, take a moment to thank it for doing its job. And remember, there’s still a world out there where billions aren’t as lucky. This year, a crew of young, fired-up volunteers from Youthclinc’s Service Year Program traveled halfway around the world to Chisang, a remote village on the India-Bhutan border. On a recent trip in Madagascar, Ava Hartman, one of our couriers, worked alongside local communities to implement 25 water filters in rural areas. In places like Belo Sur Tsiribihina, where families rely on the Tsiribihinia River, these filters are making a real difference. What stood out most wasn’t just the gratitude, but the collaboration. The families were fully involved in the process, taking ownership of the filters and making sure they could provide safe water for their communities.
