This Women’s History Month, we’re celebrating Wilma McManus, our District's first female principal! Wilma began teaching in a one-room schoolhouse in 1935 and later became the Dallas County Supervisor of Elementary Instruction. In 1966, Wilma was hired by Superintendent Eason as the first elementary principal in the Waukee Consolidated School District, a position she held until her retirement in 1977. Mrs. Volkens' 3rd graders at Eason Elementary wrote letters to Allyn Locker, our Director of Elementary Teaching & Learning, sharing why they thought the District's Aquatic Experiences program should continue. The program, which offers a five-day swimming and water safety course at the Natatorium for all Waukee CSD 2nd and 3rd graders, is a new addition this year. Allyn recently visited the class to let them know their voices were heard — and YES, the program is here to stay! ?? ??
