“Inspire people to do the things that inspire them… and together, we can change our world.”
Simon Sinek could not have said it any better. This is exactly what comes to mind when I think about how Watsi brings people around the world together to make healthcare a reality for those in need.
I recently met students from #Stonybrook University in New York. Most of them are studying to be nurses, doctors, or dentists. I thought it was pretty amazing that, despite their busy schedules, they find the time to meet every week and talk about #Watsi and how they can help more people around the world.????
Watsi at Stonybrook was started ten years ago by Watsi’s all-star supporter, Daniel Ahmadizadeh [check out his blogpost here: https://lnkd.in/g28RseJB]. Daniel got involved with Watsi and has gone on to be CEO of two #YCombinator-backed start-ups. [Fun fact: Watsi is also a Y Combinator-backed start-up, along with Airbnb, Doordash, Dropbox, Twitch, Zapier, and we were their very first nonprofit!]
Inspired by Watsi’s impact, Daniel went on and inspired many others at Stonybrook to join in. Today, Stonybrook students have raised over $28,000 and supported 273 patients around the world, including little Sambath from Cambodia, Annet from Uganda, and Bunaidie from Haiti [Check out their team page and meet all the patients they've helped: https://lnkd.in/ga-E3uaB].
I love the idea that everyone out there wants to help, in big or small ways. Anyone can come together to support patients in creative ways. You can inspire people around you by starting a Watsi student group in your school, hosting a fundraiser in your community, sharing a profile of a patient with your friends and family, giving out Watsi Gift Cards for the holidays or birthdays [https://lnkd.in/gSthA2dr], or creating your very own campaign [https://lnkd.in/gG-Qd9c3] and actually see the impact of your support (you’ll get updates on each patient you support together)!
