Ahmed’s journey spans #Web3, multi-chain innovation and real-world impact at #Cardano, Avalanche and beyond. At?EMURGO Africa, he led product development in multiple joint venture projects including SME borrowing and lending in emerging markets and tokenization of carbon credits. He also helped build developer scaffolds for?Cardano, empowering the ecosystem to tokenize real-world assets seamlessly. Aligned with our work, Ahmed is no stranger to commodities. His career began in oil and gas, where he conducted his engineering thesis with bp, working onshore and offshore on prediction models to foresee failures in critical rig components. Outside of work, Ahmed is passionate about horse riding, a hobby he’s enjoyed since childhood having trained race horses in his father’s farm. He is also an avid traveler, and an aviation enthusiast with a passion for flying. I'm incredibly excited about this next cycle of digital asset growth and real world application. I take a break to go for a run or to the gym mid-morning after the usual back to back of virtual early morning meetings with the world outside CA. Today, I saw this: a real brick and mortar bookstore opening back up on 3rd Street Promenade and it made me incredibly happy. Many of us watched with a little heartbreak as digital giants such as Amazon replaced first the small local #bookstores and coffee nooks we loved and then eventually even the giants like Barnes and Noble. I was very sad when I moved back to the States a few years ago and saw the physical Amazon bookstore taking their place in my local Palisades Village. Today, that is gone and Barnes and Noble is back although much bigger and in Santa Monica :). Far cry from the old sofas I remember reading for hours on in Westwood Village as a college kid or the wonder of Daunt Bookstores in London BUT a step back to a world where my son can walk into a place filled with the magic of books and get lost in their adventures without having to stare at another screen. Anyone who grew up in energy and LNG, like I did, will know Gastech. My first time attending was a lifetime ago as a young Shell graduate. I came to interview various ministers and national energy company executives for a strategy piece on LNG value propositions and what it means to be the international partner of choice to the world’s national energy companies. It was brilliant and I learned so much. We all learned so much from that exercise. It was one of my first lessons in the power of win-win deals, fair play, and origination with sustained value at its heart. Something that was amplified repeatedly throughout my career. I also became longstanding friends, collaborators and ultimately partners with many of the people I interviewed and the others I at the event. This community, over time, became a living part of the network I carry with me through a career… with the event as a time and a place to reconnect, test out new ideas, ink new deals and forge new relationships as we all fly in for a few days. Today is my first time back after leaving Shell. It’s humbling and lovely to be invited to speak - as an entrepreneur and without that world class brand on my business card. But it is doubly cool to reconnect with the people I loved working with, learning from and doing business with. AND to see how they remain the same warm, supportive, empowering humans no matter what logo is on their business cards or what new extraordinary achievements they have under their belt. So… here’s to my friends :), and to human ingenuity; to the global talent pool working nonstop to fuel our lives with the energy we need, while tackling the climate crisis.
