🌸Cherry Blossoms are blooming next week in Washington, D.C., and we hope spring is coming to your hometowns as well! But, we can't help but be grateful for the difficult and dangerous work on inland locks completed this winter to keep navigation running efficiently on the Mississippi River! 🧰New anchorages installed (essentially hinges for lock gates/ miter gates) ❄️Lock taken out of service during the replacement, so completed during winter 🧰New miter gates for Lock and Dam 7 will be installed summer 2025 📆Existing miter gates have been in place since 1937 🗺️In 2024, 4,360 barges carrying 8.7 million tons of commodities passed through Lock and Dam 7 in addition to 2,462 recreation vessels #LockDam7 Photos by Gabriel Hathaway Full article: https://lnkd.in/e-uM2PT8

Our waterways are a critical supply chain artery – a backbone to our economy – ensuring the efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable movement of goods that power industries, create jobs, and strengthen U.S. global trade. However, our infrastructure is aging with many locks on the MS river dating back to the 1930s! Modernization is a must to both protect and grow our trade economy. The team from CGB Enterprises, Inc. (Lance Rase, MBA and Matt Akins, MBA) and Cooper Consolidated, LLC (Chris Blanchard) recently joined Waterways Council, Inc. as they conducted 107 meetings(!) on Capitol Hill to discuss: ✔️ Steady investments in U.S. lock and dam infrastructure ✔️ Crucial funding for operations and maintenance projects to reduce emergency lock closures The team was also honored to attend the WCI event where 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿(𝗥-𝗞𝗬) received the 22nd Annual Leadership Service Award for his championing of inland waterways through the 𝗞𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗰𝗸𝘆 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁. This project will reduce long barge traffic delays (at times, 8 hours!) on the Tennessee River, and provide long-term economic benefit to the nearby communities and many impacted industries. 💡 By prioritizing investment in our waterways, Congress can drive billions into the U.S. economy, create thousands of U.S. jobs, and ensure we remain competitive on the world stage. CGB is proud to be in the conversations securing the U.S. economic future! #WaterwaysCouncil #Infrastructure #CGB #CooperConsolidated #WashingtonDC #WCI
