    On My Mind: Idan's Thought of the Week I like to say: deals come in waves. You go from 0 investment opportunities for consecutive weeks to 5 live deals the next week. There are several countering elements that go into diligencing potential investments. MOVE FAST, BUT IT'S LONG TERM: Fundraising is a distraction from the business. I understand why founders want VCs to close it out quickly. However, once you bring on an investor, they are with you for the rest of the journey which is often 5-7-10 more years. Through the process, we get to know deeply the person we are backing, and I encourage founders to do the same with their potential investors. SIGNALS, BUT IT'S A NEW SPACE: We are investing at the earliest stages in the future, in potential markets or workflows that often don't exist yet. I like to see early signals of a hypothesis working, even at a micro-scale. But the reality is any quantitative analysis is going to be loaded with assumptions because the data just isn't there yet. CAN'T REPLACE IN PERSON: When the venture industry found a new normal post-covid, investing via zoom unlocked access to capital and reaching founders all over the map. However, you still can't replace meeting somebody in person. We have expanded our geos, but we have not made an investment without meeting the founder(s) in person. It is a long journey and there is a lot of capital at stake, you just can't be skipping these crucial steps. Let me know your thoughts!     On My Mind: Idan's Thought of the Week VC investing is a fast-paced environment. In a single week we go through 10s if not 100s of companies, dive in deep into a handful, and have numerous discussions about the future of different industries. Taking a step back, there are some overarching themes I am thinking about: AI IS IN EVERYTHING: At Watertower Ventures we talk about AI as the third and largest technological transformational wave. Like the invent of the Internet (1), followed by the expanse through Mobile (2), and now the permeation of AI/ML (3). Every company is an AI company. VERTICAL > HORIZONTAL: I believe there are cycles, probably spanning 10-20 years, of what type of solutions companies seek. The custom-built & workflow-specific solutions from the 90s/00s were replaced by flexible & scalable systems in the late 00s/10s that could be used for many use-cases. I believe in the 20s we are now seeing a shift back to Vertical solutions that are built for specific workflows and industries again, powered by AI and modern tech stacks that enable this to scale. With the tech market flooded with options, wouldn't you select the one that was designed for your use-case? As an investor, the question quickly evolves to what is the market size for this Vertical AI startup. More importantly I ask, is the market growing?     ?? We are excited to share that we have closed Fika Ventures Fund IV at $160 million, and with it, launched a new website (fika.vc) that puts our values at the forefront. This brings our total capital raised to over half a billion dollars. We couldn’t be more grateful and appreciative of the unwavering support of our LPs and all the incredible founders we’ve had the honor of partnering with. While we were extremely privileged to be oversubscribed for Fika IV, we intentionally kept the fund size the same as Fika III.
