A few key statistics: - Rural residents are more likely to have chronic conditions like heart disease and diabetes than people living in urban areas. - Only 10% of physicians practice in rural areas, though they make up 20% of the U.S. population. - In a majority of states, 1 in 4 rural hospitals are at risk of closing. In 10 states, 1 in 2 are at risk. The newly released 2024 "Mirror, Mirror" report by The Commonwealth Fund provides critical insights into the state of U.S. healthcare. Despite outspending its peer countries, the U.S. continues to trail behind in crucial health metrics such as life expectancy and preventable deaths. This was driven by outstanding scores in areas like safety, preventative care, and patient engagement. However, low scores in care coordination (7th out of 10) held the U.S. back from the top spot. ? As this year's Digital Health Investment Symposium comes to a close, we finished up with panels on coordinated care across post-acute verticals, and healthcare outsourcing.
