On this #WorldWaterDay, we need warriors more than ever – both Waterkeepers and ordinary people like you who care about everyone's right to clean water. As federal protections are cut, budgets decreased and government oversight reduced, we need to double our efforts to protect the places we live, work and play … before they are gone. Will you make a gift today? From World Water Day until Earth Day on April 22, a generous donor will match up to $1000! https://lnkd.in/egBCbFti Photo credit: Alan Lehman, Potomac Riverkeeper Network (2018)

In Maryland, we have a chance to stop the spread of biosolids (sewage sludge) contaminated with PFAS on our farm fields. We're working with Sen. Sara Love and Del. Dana Stein on a bill that sets a limit on PFAS and requires testing of biosolids prior to its use as fertilizer on farm fields. EPA has determined that PFAS is toxic. But we can't wait for EPA to act. It's urgent that Maryland acts now to safeguard its drinking water sources, environment and the health of our farmers and communities. The new Trump administration has orchestrated deliberate and callous chaos since taking office. The list is too long to list here. But we wanted to alert you to this latest move. EPA's Office for Environmental Justice is closed and the federal EJ Screen mapping tool is gone (as are state-based EJ Screen tools like Maryland's that linked to the federal database). Dept. of Justice's Environment and Natural Resources Division staff have been fired and its the Office of Environmental Justice has been eliminated. For the next 4 years, we will see more webpages like the one below. And we will need strong local advocacy now more than ever to counter the hostility at the federal level. The Eastern Hellbender, the largest salamander in North America, needs your help to get it across the finish line to endangered species protection. In December, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service announced a proposal to list the Eastern Hellbender as an endangered species throughout its 15-state range. The Hellbender needs clean, fast-flowing mountain rivers and streams to survive. It's urgent that to take action by February 11 to submit comments supporting this proposal. https://lnkd.in/gbPY6idb #hellbender #endangeredspeciesact #takeaction

Our Waterkeepers have been calling attention to the toxic coal ash problems for years. And they have been fighting back with research, community mobilization, legislation and litigation because everyone deserves clean, safe drinking water. https://lnkd.in/gANgACdi #coalash #drinkingwater
