A vision for a food and water secure world.
关于我们
The Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute at the University of Nebraska was founded in 2010 by the Robert B. Daugherty Foundation to address the global challenge of achieving food security with less stress on water resources through improved water management in agricultural and food systems. We are committed to ensuring a water and food secure world while maintaining the use of water for other human and environmental needs. The University of Nebraska has invested in three interdisciplinary, university-wide institutes — including the Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute — that leverage talent and research-based expertise from across the University of Nebraska system to focus on complex state, national and global challenges. ???? Did you know that honey from bees can be used to test water quality? ???? Bees gather nectar from flowers, and those flowers depend on clean, healthy water sources. By analyzing the chemical composition of honey in a water sciences lab, researchers can trace contaminants and pollutants that might affect the environment—ultimately helping us monitor the health of our water systems. ??

Can you clearly communicate the impact of your research? ?? At UNL's annual Faculty Research and Creative Activity Slam, faculty are challenged to explain their research in an engaging and accessible way—using just five minutes. This year, DWFI Faculty Fellow Nirupam Aich, Ph.D. took home first place by delivering a powerful pitch on his work to break down PFAS ("forever chemicals"). Aich highlighted the history of how and why these chemicals were made, the risks they pose to public health, how they've become widespread in our environment, and why they're so difficult to break down. He also shared how his team is developing innovative tools to break the "forever cycle" of PFAS contamination. Congratulations, Nirupam! ???? DYK in the 1940s, there were only 16 whooping cranes left in the world? Today, thanks to the dedication of countless conservationists, scientists, and wildlife enthusiasts, the whooping crane population is around 850. But their survival is still fragile. ?? DWFI Faculty Fellow Michael Forsberg’s stunning photos and powerful essays capture every stage of the whooping cranes’ epic migration—from their wintering grounds on the Gulf Coast to their breeding grounds in Canada—highlighting the vast wetlands and rivers that are vital to their journey. https://ow.ly/QCE950U4Ana
