???? Did you know that honey from bees can be used to test water quality? ???? Bees gather nectar from flowers, and those flowers depend on clean, healthy water sources. By analyzing the chemical composition of honey in a water sciences lab, researchers can trace contaminants and pollutants that might affect the environment—ultimately helping us monitor the health of our water systems. ??

Can you clearly communicate the impact of your research? ?? At UNL's annual Faculty Research and Creative Activity Slam, faculty are challenged to explain their research in an engaging and accessible way—using just five minutes. This year, DWFI Faculty Fellow Nirupam Aich, Ph.D. took home first place by delivering a powerful pitch on his work to break down PFAS ("forever chemicals"). Aich highlighted the history of how and why these chemicals were made, the risks they pose to public health, how they've become widespread in our environment, and why they're so difficult to break down.
