The global #watercrisis is not merely a matter of scarcity — it's a challenge rooted in economics! ? Find out why through a visually immersive narrative website showcasing GCEW's new #EconomicsOfWater report. Beginning with the disruption of the global hydrological cycle, the website features stunning interactive visuals that illustrate how human actions are intensifying water scarcity, food insecurity and social vulnerability across the globe. The report also presents a novel set of pathways for transformation that could change the way we think about sustainability and building resilience. ???https://bit.ly/3ziFncU

We are proud to stand alongside our commissioner, Liz Wathuti, in her inspiring call to action. ???? As she so eloquently reminds us, water is at the heart of life, ecosystems, and sustainable development. At the Global Commission on the Economics of Water, we believe in recognizing water as a vital common good and addressing the global water crisis with urgency and collective action. Let’s join hands to champion innovative solutions, equitable access, and sustainable management of our planet’s most precious resource. Together, we can make a difference for people and the planet. ??? #EconomicsOfWater #ClimateAction #WaterForAll https://buff.ly/4i1T3uC

Yesterday was #WaterDay at #COP29 in #Baku.? ? In this light, the Global Commission hosted a thought-provoking event at the COP29 #TradeandInvestmentHouse on the topic of?“Virtual Water Crisis”: Rethinking Agricultural Trade and the Future of Water Resources. ? Moderated by Mathilde Mesnard, María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, Jesus Alquezar, Ulla Kask and Wampie Libon shed light on?how trade can contribute to the ambition of stabilising the hydrological cycle, in a way that is economically efficient, environmentally sustainable and socially just.? ? Explore the relationship between trade and the hydrological cycle further in this new work inspired by the Global Commission which looks at the implications of the Global Commission’s findings in the light of agricultural trade and how virtual water trade can serve as a stabiliser ? https://buff.ly/3Ze6Jv5 #COP29Azerbaijan #EconomicsOfWater

Global Commission on the Economics of Water转发了
Join me and Danielle Gaillard-Picher at the #Water4Climate pavilion at COP29 Azerbaijan SIWI - Stockholm International Water Institute at 430pm Wednesday Nov 20 to discuss the outcomes and follow up of the Global Commission on the Economics of Water The hydrological cycle and its linkages with climate change – origin, impact and actions – must be center stag. Bridging the three Rio Convention COPs in 2024 – #Cali, #Baku and #Riyad, and Victoria Falls – with the #UN2026WaterConference towards action, global governance and valuing the hydrological cycle as a global common good. Decades of collective mismanagement and undervaluation of water around the world have damaged our freshwater and land ecosystems and allowed for the continuing contamination of water resources. We can no longer count on freshwater availability for our collective future. Our policies, and the science and economics that underpin them, have also overlooked a critical freshwater resource, the “green water” in our soils and plant life, which circulates through the atmosphere and generates around half the rainfall we receive on land. Most gravely, while itself a victim of climate change, the degradation of freshwater ecosystems including the loss of moisture in the soil has become a driver of climate change and biodiversity loss. The result is more frequent and increasingly severe droughts, floods, heatwaves, and wildfires, playing out across the globe. We need bolder and more integrated thinking and a recasting of policy frameworks to address these challenges. The Global Commission on the Economics of Water (GCEW) calls for a new economics of water. Recognizing the hydrological cycle as a global common good, understanding that it connects countries and regions through both the water that we see and atmospheric moisture flows; that it is deeply interconnected with climate change and the loss of biodiversity with each rebounding on the other; and that it impacts on all the SDGs.
